Destination Spotlight: York

Unlike other cities, York city centre is pedestrianised - meaning that most shops, restaurants and attractions are easily accessible by foot, so no need for cars. However, there is still a variety of transport links available, with it being just under two hours from London by train; the option of their Park & Ride that networks on the outskirts, as well as this, it is also within easy travelling distance of four international airports.

Notably, for those seeking a thrill that may like the odd bump in the night, then you will relish as York was officially announced as the most haunted city in Europe, by The International Ghost Research Foundation in 2002, with it being home to an estimated 500 ghosts in the city.

Whilst if you are looking to learn more about the area and all of the incredible history that comes with it, then take advantage of their city special walking tours including Graveyard, Coffin and Plague tour, where you can scare yourselves silly or why not discover the Saints and Sinners of the city, to mention just a few. Commemorating York’s buzzing history, it is also home to over 30 museums and tourist attractions, with notable links including Gunpowder Plot fame with Guy Fawkes, as he was born in, lived and went to school in Stonegate.
